The Situationist International was one of the rare revolutionary groups to critique Capitalism in its advanced cultural stage...as it was lived in the everyday life by the mid to late century proletariat. Combining whit, humor, rigor, and a fearless candor they analyzed architecture, art, politics of both left and right, the riot, drunkness, and beauty. The S.I.left a legacy that few have been able to simulate, and even less fully absorb into their own lives. Free University of Los Angeles will be giving a lecture/ discussion titled Demanding the impossible: the Situationist International (S.I.): Revolutionary movement or art movement? We will discuss the Situationist contribution to revolutionary movements both at the personal and the political level, "the realization and suppression of art", american post-situationist groups, the relation to academia and art institutions.
