What's News at Flor y Canto
Not only did he raise some funds for FyC, but Bob of the Echo
Park Private Brewery also did it in the middle of throwing a party! Que
Chingon! Now that's the way to do it, no? Muy Agradecidos.
Much Thanks to R. from Chicago's A-Zone for her generous contribution to the space!
In Memoriam. Richard S. (Disco) a distant yet enthusiastic supporter of our project, passed away on Sat. Nov. 22 2003 after a battle with cancer. We appreciate all the support he gave us and thank him for inspiring us to continue pushing forward. He will be missed.
Our most heartfelt thanks go out to Richard S. (Disco) for his generous contribution of multiple copies of his favorite radical books and for thinking about us! Even from far away Missouri we get our support and solidarity! Muchisimas Gracias!
Thanks to CAXO for coming up with an awesome cd to benefit the space! It includes songs from Gored Face, Terrorizm, Aversion, Palabra, and Cara de Mil Putazos, at the unbelievable price of 5 bucks all of which go to benefit Flor y Canto. Come on by and pick up your copy.
Many sincere thanks to Nikki y Mando for helping organize the music fundraiser with Aztlan Underground, Mezcla, Subsistencia, and Los de Abajo: on top of raising some needed funds, we were also treated to an amazing energetic show! Many thanks as well to Hector for organizing a very successful Book sale. We sold lots of used books even though the rain came pouring down on us! Thanks to you all.
We're having a book sale in November so if you have some used books, magazines, or cd's the you'd like to donate, feel free to drop them off or we can arrange to pick them up.
Much thanks to Ed and Janet for their numerous donations of equipment and financial contributions. Muchisimas Gracias!
Thanks to Michael D. for his donation of cool games and puzzles, even an Etch a Sketch! Gracias!
We will be putting up a monthly book selection, reviewing some books we think you might enjoy reading. Check it out HERE
We have just silk-screened some really cool T-shirts that we hope to sell to raise some much needed funds. Our very own MocoLoco created the design and we think they came out quite nice. Check 'em out HERE
Thanks to Rachel Longoria, her Daughter Martika, and family for donating the very popular children's books, dictionaries, and puzzles. The local kids put them to good use!
Thanks un chingo to DJ Menoman, Ruben, and Gramma' Jessie for donating a refrigerator to the center; we can now offer a small selection of cold refreshments, plus it helps us make a little bit extra money to pay the rent.
February is B. Traven month here at the center, with two video screenings based on his books. In addition, we are featuring a variety of Traven titles for sale.
We are still in need of volunteers to help out in various aspects of running the space, including challenging tasks like organizing events and more mundane things like cleaning up! If you are interested, stop by and let us know.
John K. came through with many needed office items and magazines for which we are truly grateful.
Much thanks to Robert for all his construction help, first the walls and now the rails: He always comes through for the center.
12/01 Our heartfelt thanks to Guillermo and Catherine for providing the space to get Flor y Canto started and we wish them the best in their future projects. Their departure means we have more space to work with (yay!) but also more rent (boo!) so we will be in the process of redesigning the space. We can still use the help of volunteers and we can definitely use some of you out there to come buy some books (we have a new shipment!) and/or T-shirts to help with our funds.
We would like to thank the good folks from AGC for donating quite a few pamphlets and books to FYC and for their efforts to use and promote the space. Gracias! We would also like to thank Mikus for his donation of books. And finally a round of applause to Red from Against Sleep and Nightmare for sending us copies of "Murdering the Dead". Thank you all!
Thanks so much to the good folks at Cookman International, especially Max! They were kind enough to pass on some unused Macintosh Computers to us and as soon as we get them all configured and make some space here, we will be deploying them at the center. We give you our warmest thanks!
Our good friend Karen Eliot donated an Air popping Popcorn machine! Film nights will now be even more delicious.
